Shimmer Eyeliner is a product that is used to create a line around the lash line – upper and/or lower and it provides a definition of the eye shape and can also be used to create a more unusual shape or exaggerate an aspect of the eye shape that one wants to feature. The difference is that the color of the eyeliner has a dimensional quality like a shine or shimmer that reflects a different color. It’s a great way to highlight an eyecolor or the color of an outfit. Shimmer eyeliner can be found in a variety of colors including basic neutrals like black and brown as well as charcoal, grey heading into metallic tones like gold, silver, bronze, and copper then into warm tones like warm or cool reds, corals, pink and rusts. Oranges and various shades of that color along with yellow are quite popular along with hues of green from softest mint to deep dark blackened green into tones of lilac, lavender deepening to grape, aubergine, eggplant and mauve, whether it’s summer, fall or holiday. Shimmer can also be found in a waterproof formula though it might be a bit pricier. Like regular eyeliners, shimmer eyeliners can be tricky to use and thus requires a tutorial from friends, family or by various publications both in print or online. The more one practices applying a certain eyeliner type, the easier and faster the application. Given the varieties of eyeliner presentations there are nuances even within specific categories. Pencils include basic pencils in various lengths as well as chubby pencils. The key to pencil eyeliner is the pencil sharpener. A fresh new sharpener provides a sharper tip and thus one gets more precise application. Liquid eyeliners with a stick pointed applicator wand are the most consistent. Those with brushes must be treated carefully so that the brush doesn’t start splitting out into different directions. Powder eyeliners and gel eyeliners require a special brush and those brushes should be cared for carefully because if they aren’t clean or the hairs start falling out, they will be difficult to use. Gel liners must be treated gently and kept tightly close or they will dry out (and for some brands, once they are dry, it is impossible to restore them) Gel liners are often the ones with the most shimmer eyeliner since their consistency holds the shimmer particles in suspension easily. Shimmer eyeliners can often be more expensive than regular eyeliners.
